Caption Head - Josh Logan
Josh Logan has a long history teaching percussion in the Pittsburgh area. He worked with Yough High School during their run as 3 times state marching band champion in Class A, as well as time for both indoor and outdoor programs at Penn Trafford High School and Gateway High School in Monroeville.

Additional indoor percussion experiences with the Royal Crusaders, Project Percussion and Three Rivers Indoor Percussion all show where his talent and patience produced great products and representation of the skill level in our area.

His drum corps affiliations include The General Butler Vagabonds, The Cardinals and The Crossmen as a member of the snare line. He is currently the owner of “The Hack Shack”, a private lesson studio based out of North Huntington, PA. He is also a gigging drum set player with his band Hugo Down and will return as Caption Head for Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps from Milwaukee, WI.
Assistant Percussion Caption Head - Candace Boone
Candace Boone is currently a private instructor around the Indianapolis area. She graduated from Indiana State University in 2015 with Bachelors of Music Education. Originally from Avon, Indiana, Candace performed in the front ensemble at Avon High School and has been teaching multiple ensemble around the Indianapolis area including Carmel High School in 2016 and Hamilton Southeastern High School for the last two years. This will be her second year on staff at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps.

Tenor Technician - Manny Castaneda
Manny Castaneda is an active music educator and performer in Southern California and South Western United States. Originally from El Paso, Texas, Manny has had a varied career as a performer in the percussion realm spanning from his time as member of the Troopers (snare), and Bluecoats (front ensemble) Drum and Bugle Corps, to his time as a member of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, The El Paso Wind Symphony, Star City Percussion Ensemble, and currently as a freelance musician in the LA area where he can be found playing anything from orchestral, rock, metal, funk, alternative, hip hop, pit work/musicals, as well as session and touring work.

As an educator Manny is the front ensemble caption head at Elan Indoor Percussion, which competes in the SCPA and WGI circuits, and formerly a battery and front ensemble tech for Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps. Scholastically Manny is head of percussion at Workman High School, Gabrielino High School, and El Segundo High School, serves as a staff member/consultant for several other SoCal programs, and has been previously involved with several other highly successful SoCal, Las Vegas, and west Texas area percussion and university programs. In addition, he is an active clinician and lecturer in the southwestern United States covering orchestral and marching percussion, drumset, and music business aspects.

This will be Manny’s first year on staff with Pioneer.

Bass Drum Technician - John Quinlisk
John Quinlisk has been involved with the marching arts since 2009, focusing primarily on bass. His marching experience includes marching bass drum with the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps (2014), Penn State Indoor Drumline (2014, 2015), Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps (2015, 2016), and United Percussion (2016) where he performed at WGI World Class Finals. Along with that, John has been a bass drum tech for Central Bucks High School South and Marple Newtown High School throughout the past few years.

He is currently a senior at Penn State University studying Secondary Mathematics Education with a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language and looks forward to graduating in the spring after student teaching in both Pennsylvania and New Zealand!

This will be John’s first season on staff with Pioneer, he is enthralled to be begin his independent teaching career, and can’t wait to share the many joys of bass drumming and this activity with the next generation of musicians.

Cymbal Technician - David Phan
David Phan is current student at California State University, Long Beach studying in Environmental Geography. From Westminster, CA, David was a cymbal player at Impluse Drum and Bugle Corps ’10-13 and Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps ’15. He was also a participant in Pulse Percussion ’13-15 and POW Percussion ’17 both on cymbals as well. David currently instructs for local southern California high schools including Westminster High School, Bolsa Grande High School, and Dana Hills High School. This will be his second year on staff at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps.

Sound Engineer - Robert McCowan
Robert McCowan is currently a sound engineer, student, and aspiring educator living in the Denver area. His pageantry arts career includes time spent as a performer at the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble, Pioneer, Rise Percussion, Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps and most recently Atlanta Quest. He has also worked as a performer doing both live gigs as well as work for TV and film.

He started his audio career at the age of 16 and has been working professionally since 2010. He pursued further education in theatrical lighting and sound design at the University of Northern Colorado, working on several productions while he was in attendance. It was while there that he realized his passion for teaching after accepting an opportunity to serve as the assistant director of athletic bands at Westminster High School. This lead to his decision to pursue his degree in Music Education.

He is very excited about this season and the opportunity to work with the very talented design and educational teams here at Pioneer.
