Caption Head - Tyrell Carver
Tyrell Carver will once again serve as Pioneer Percussion Caption Head in 2018. He previously held the position of Percussion Caption Head & Music Director for Pioneer from 2011 to 2013, and returned to be Caption Head once again in 2017.

In addition to his involvement with Pioneer over the years, Tyrell has been prominent in percussion writing and instruction in New York state. He has taught and arranged for several marching bands, including the Webster and Greece marching band programs. He has also been on staff for several drum and bugle corps, including Pioneer, Spectrum, Rochester Crusaders and the Empire Statesmen.
Snare Technician - Josh Logan
Josh Logan has a long history teaching percussion in the Pittsburgh area. He worked with Yough High School during their run as 3 times state marching band champion in Class A, as well as time for both indoor and outdoor programs at Penn Trafford High School and Gateway High School in Monroeville.

Additional indoor percussion experiences with the Royal Crusaders, Project Percussion and Three Rivers Indoor Percussion all show where his talent and patience produced great products and representation of the skill level in our area.

His drum corps affiliations include The General Butler Vagabonds, The Cardinals and The Crossmen as a member of the snare line. He is currently the owner of “The Hack Shack”, a private lesson studio based out of North Huntington, PA. He is also a gigging drum set player with his band Hugo Down and will return as a battery technician for Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps from Milwaukee, WI.
Quad Technician - Javier Ramirez
Javier Ramirez is from Indianapolis, Indiana. With 9 years of experience, Javier has been establishing himself as a aspiring music educator, performer, and composer in the Indianapolis area. Javier is currently working on his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education with a minor is Spanish at the University of Indianapolis. At U-Indy, Javier is studying percussion privately under Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra percussionists Paul Berns and Jack Brennan. He is also studying composition and arranging under Dr. John Berners. In 2012, Javier was a Battery Percussion member in the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps and served as section leader for the quad line. In addition, he has also performed as a member of Legacy Indoor with the quad line in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Outside of the competition side of the marching arts, Javier is a performer with the Indiana Pacers High Octane Drum Line, currently serving his 6th year with the ensemble. When he is not drumming or teaching, he likes to enjoy his time composing, playing sports, and hanging out with friends and familia.
Cymbal Technician - David Phan
David Phan is current student at California State University, Long Beach studying in Environmental Geography. From Westminster, CA, David was a cymbal player at Impluse Drum and Bugle Corps ’10-13 and Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps ’15. He was also a participant in Pulse Percussion ’13-15 and POW Percussion ’17 both on cymbals as well. David currently instructs for local southern California high schools including Westminster High School, Bolsa Grande High School, and Dana Hills High School. This will be his second year on staff at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps.
Front Ensemble Technician - Candace Boone
Candace Boone is currently a private instructor around the Indianapolis area. She graduated from Indiana State University in 2015 with Bachelors of Music Education. Originally from Avon, Indiana, Candace performed in the front ensemble at Avon High School and has been teaching multiple ensemble around the Indianapolis area including Carmel High School in 2016 and Hamilton Southeastern High School for the last two years. This will be her second year on staff at Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps.
